Dubbing Ghana as the best place for investment and trade - High Commissioner of Ghana to India-Kwaku Asoma Cheremeh.

Ghana is one of the most peaceful nations among West African countries in the region. 

“One district One factory” was an attractive offer for industrialists - Minister Counsellor High Commission of Ghana Adjei Ernest Nana.

Hyderabad, 08 April, 2023:  A trade delegation from Ghana held a Trade Summit on 7th April, 2023 night at hotel Trident, Hitech City, Hyderabad, which saw top bureaucrats from the West African nation explaining why their country was the most conducive place to do business and the summit is organised by GV Krishna Trade Commissioner of India Africa trade council-Ghana.

Minister for home prisons and fire services of Telangana state, Shri Mahmood Ali attended as the chief guest on behalf of the state government side and the Ghana delegation is headed by the High Commissioner of Ghana to India Asoma Cheremeh Kwaku.

The Ghana trade delegation is occupied with Hon. Adjei Ernest Nana, Minister-Counsellor of Political and Economic-Ghana, Hon. George Yaw Boakye, Regional Minister, Ahafo region-Ghana, Hon. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, Regional Minister, Bono East Region,-Ghana, Hon. Nana Twum Barima, King of Akyem-Abuakwa (Sanaahene)-Ghana, Hon. Peter Mensah, Executive Director, India Africa Trade Council-Ghana, Dr James Rajamani, IATC Chairman.

Memorandums of understanding were also signed during the summit held on Friday.

Minster Mohammed Ali, in his address, said that this trade summit is a important platform for the ease of doing business, trade in agriculture, useful for policy makers from both the countries.    

He further presented the modern Telangana system from handling bureaucracy, police system, irrigation, TS E-PASS, subsidy to farmers in agriculture and many other schemes in energy, pharmaceuticals and export and import.  The city was ready to work with Ghana on many fronts, he said.

Addressing the India-Ghana Conference in Hyderabad on Friday, the High Commissioner of Ghana to India Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh presented the screen showing why their country was the most conducive place to do business.  

Mr Cheremeh said that Ghana was one of the most peaceful countries in West Africa with a stable government and electoral transparency and accountability. The World Bank, in 2019, ranked it as the best place for doing business and said this is the right time for India to occupy the African market.

The country was growing very fast in the agriculture and agro-processing, financial and telecommunication sectors. Ghana invites investments in hospital services, research and development, infrastructure, oil refineries and home-based airlines development. Under the African Continent Free Trade Agreement, industrialists would have an opportunity to expand their business across the continent as well, he said. He urged Indian companies, especially the ones from Telangana, to explore the opportunities in Ghana.

GV Krishna Trade Commissioner of India, said that 2 lakh acres of land out of  50,000 acres are under DPR, which was given by Ghana military forces for farming and further said India is offering unparallel assess to Ghana in Health, trade data, business introductions, networking opportunities, education, investment opportunities, documentation, trade license and many others.

He said Ghana and India are the countries having a vibrant business environments with huge potential in sectors such as manufacturing, digital technology, hydrocarbons, and industrial minerals such as gold, lithium and manganese, besides tourism. 

Minister Counsellor High Commission of Ghana Adjei Ernest Nana added that the country’s ‘one district one factory’ was an attractive offer for industrialists. In addition to having the Africa Continent Free Trade Agreement to expand their business, the Indian industrialists manufacturing within Ghana would have a tax holiday of 10 years and they could import machinery to Ghana free of import duty. He further said a country develops primarily through trade.
